Back in Court
Basketball tryouts were tonight. Much to my surprise, Paul wanted to play basketball again this year. Other than karate, that's the only physical activity that he's taken an interest in. So here we are in the gym for an hour and a half so the coaches can pidgeonhole him.
There are sixteen sixth-graders that came out, and eleven fifth-graders. They're going to decide tonight whether to form a combined third team, or to keep all the fifth graders together and split the sixth-graders into And B teams. One sixth grade team will be competetive, and the other will be recreational. Given how much Paul has practiced in the off-season (none), I'm pretty sure which team he'll be on. As long as he has fun and keeps at it, I'm thrilled.
Paul got off to a good start at the tryouts. In their first drill, he let fly with a long shot that was nothing but net. He missed the rest of his shots, and he kept forgetting not to double-dribble, but I bet that first good shot will be enough to keep him interested. That, and the fact that several other boys appear to be near his skill level, make me think this will shape up to be a good season for us.
