Some biomechanics researchers have proven that normal walking and running gaits are the most energy-efficient means of locomotion for the human body. In other words, silly walking has not caught on because it's less efficient.
One aspect of this study that was not brought up in the article is the notion that silly-walking might be a better way to get around if you are trying to lose weight. I think I might give it a try.
